Give your home an uplifting refresh with these gorgeous hues.
Farrow & Ball has revealed the colors we will be decorating our homes within 2021 — and the hues that will rule next year include earth colors, pops of striking blue, and luxurious palettes of red.
Over the past six months, our homes have become more than just places of refuge after a long day, from spaces to work from home, classrooms for children, and indoor gyms.
Speaking about the colors for next year, Farrow & Ball has explained the importance of creating a multi-functional space: “Now that we are spending more time in the home, we will be using colors that feel friendly and relatable. Colors that are warm, welcoming, and easy to live with and that make us proud of our design decisions.
“These thoughtful choices convey a sense of ease and familiarity and are a result of wanting to find calm within the chaos of our turbulent world. We want our homes to be places not just for rest and recovery, but also for rejuvenation and inspiration.”
In order to help you redecorate your home, Farrow & Ball color curator, Joa Studholme, has revealed how to put the top trends to work in your home. Take a look at them below…

Rich and warm hues

For 2021, one of the key color palettes to have on your radar is warm tones inspired by nature, such as earthy reds and soft browns.
“In challenging times, we crave warm tones that will enrich our homes and create cozy sanctuaries away from the outside world,” says Joa Studholme. “Luxurious colors like Preference Red can be added to the most neutral of palettes by using them in rooms we use at the end of the day when we most want to relax and be comforted.”
This color trend is a move away from dark charcoals and blues, but these warmer tones – including Deep Reddish Brown and Tanner’s Brown – are all strong and subdued yet “achingly fashionable“. Chic by day and cozy by night, these colors bring a grounded but luxurious atmosphere, one that is thought-provoking and soothing, especially when paired with other hues found in the natural world.
Joa says all three chocolatey tones are particularly suited to bookshelves and library shelving when used in Modern Eggshell.

Clean and timeless blue

While trend-led inky blues have been inspiring interior schemes for a while now, they’re not going anywhere in 2021. Whether you’re planning to give your kitchen a facelift or want to spruce up a tired-looking living room, blue is the hue to choose.
“The blues best suited to anchoring our homes in 2021 are cleaner tones like lively Pitch Blue, fresh Ultra Marine Blue, and the darker, inkier Stiffkey Blue. These uncomplicated shades feel familiar, like memories from our childhood, so have a soothing effect in the home despite their cooler undertones,” adds Joa.
These blue paint colors would work well on both walls and woodwork. For a more formal and traditional feel, team these blues with a white or understated grey on the woodwork and they will sing even more, especially when used in well-lit spaces or on central kitchen islands.

Natural greens

Bring elements of the natural world into your home with earthy, soft greens, which reinforces our connection to nature and creates the perfect welcoming start to the journey through your home.
Joa says bringing elements of the natural world into our interiors “encourages personal growth as well as evoking a feeling of calm“, which, after the year we’ve all had, is welcome news.
Not sure which room to paint green? Joa suggests the following: “The traditional grey undertone of Treron makes it feel as if it is part of your family, and, like the slightly bluer Green Smoke, it has an irresistibly inviting deepness and weathered familiarity. These are soft, smoky colors that embrace you on your return home. The more olive-colored Sap Green is perfect for those who want to embrace a stronger color with a mid-century modern feel, but still, stay in touch with nature and benefit from the protective and grounding attributes of using green in the home.”
Greens are particularly popular in hallways, where they cause the rooms off it to feel bigger and lighter.

Earth colours

Find refuge in the beauty of nature by using the colors of the earth. For 2021, focus on a palette of warmer tones to add personality and elegance to your home while still remaining comfortable.
“Soft, understated Jitney is the perfect base color to build upon, and so is particularly suited to kitchens where we can layer other earth colors on units and islands, to reconnect with the elements of land, clean air, and natural light,” says Joa.
“The stronger, more mushroom tone of Dead Salmon is just as subtle as Jitney and has an even more aged, earthy look, making it feel familiar and easy to live with. India Yellow is somewhat stronger and moodier – the perfect color for 2021 with its mix of aged ease and modern strength.”
